The results of the appeals by Gary McNey and Stuart Gallagher of Stirling University were denied. The ejections stand and therefore both players are suspended for their next scheduled games. Even though the players may have crossed codes the suspensions still apply.

GUIDELINES FOR REFEREES PRIOR TO GAMES

As those who visit the various Britball websites and forums may know a game was postponed this weekend due to lack of officials. The matter is being investigated by the BSL and BAFRA and so it is not appropriate for me to make any comments about the merits of the case here. There was also some confusion about who was available for other games and who was not.

I want to remind everyone of their obligations. The Nominated Referee should contact the home team contact to confirm venue and KO time. This should be done early in the week and, if the Referee is prepared to, a telephone number should be left with the home team manager so in the event of the information changing at short notice that information can be passed on with the minimum of effort for all concerned. The team contact details has recently arrived from the BSL and those details are included below.

The Referee should then contact the other crew members to pass these details along. The time for arrival should be agreed and should be early enough to have a full pre-game conference. If someone then tells the Referee they are unavailable then he should contact Tony Newsham and make a request for a replacement to be assigned.

If you are the Nominated Referee and are unable/unwilling to contact the home team you must let Tony know as soon as possible. This can either be to ask him to appoint some one else as Referee or to confirm who on the crew has agreed to Referee.

For all other crew members, if the Referee has not contacted you by Thursday night you should contact him or, if his number is not known to you, Tony. This allows Tony to make sure all games are covered and move people, at short notice, if the need arises.

Providing everyone follows these guidelines then there should be no reason for a game to be postponed from lack of officials at the last minute.
