OPPORTUNITY TO OBTAIN GAME KIT, BOOKS ETC. FROM THE STATES

I have received a communication from Ken Gambrill, a former member of BAFRA, who many of you may remember. Ken moved to Texas a few years ago and is coming over to England shortly for the Flag Tournament Weekend in Sheffield on the 6th and 7th of September.

He has offered to bring over items from the Honigs catalogue and books that may be difficult to obtain in the United Kingdom.

Members are invited to make arrangements directly with Ken for him to bring such items as required, arrangement of appropriate payment and collection should be made for when he is over here. Please let me know if you wish to contact Ken and I will supply you with his details.

GAME ASSIGNMENTS

I have posted crew changes for the final two weeks of July on the website PLEASE REVIEW THEM URGENTLY. There are a significant number of changes, only 3 crews are unaffected this week.

These changes are necessary due to availability changes and the need to facilitate some individual member requirements.

PLAUDITS

The crew would like to send plaudits to both Staffordshire Surge and South Yorkshire Mustangs for the attitude and commitment shown by all involved in a hard-fought and close contest that was a tremendous advert for the game of American Football in this country.

Unknown

Milton Keynes Pathfinders

No numbers or 9 yard marks, limit lines only 6 feet from sideline

Brian Yates #29

27/07/08 v Cornish Sharks

Essex Spartans

No team areas or coaching boxes. Essex say that this is due to limitations on what lines they may mark on the field. The field lines are red and can be difficult to see.

Dan Bridgland #506

20/07/08 v East Kent Mavericks

Colchester Gladiators

Coaches' lines too close to field. Team lines also too close to field. No numbers or 9 yard marks. Field surface broken up in places (pieces of turf came up). No working shower in changing room (which is also quite small and could not be locked).

Dan Bridgland #506

27/07/08 v East Kent Mavericks

Sheffield Tomahawks

Team areas had only one line stretching from the thirty yard line. No goalposts at either end so no PAT kicks or field goals were allowed. Prior to game, following discussion with both Head Coaches, officials agreed to run 20 minute per quarter running clocks, as Yorkshire Rams did not have sufficient players to field both offence and defensive teams.

Mike Cavanagh #465

27/07/08 v Bolton Bulldogs

  Outstanding items from previous weeks

Birmingham Bulls

80 yard field, no team areas or coaching boxes, game delayed for 30 minutes due to Farnham being held up in traffic, ran 12 minute quarters as ambulance was booked until 5.30 pm

Brian Yates #29

20/07/08 v Gateshead Senators

Nottingham Caesars

Game was suspended for 15 minutes in the 2nd Qtr to treat an injured player. Plaudits to the Nottingham groundsman who managed to mark out a superb pitch despite only have a couple of days notice.

Jim Briggs #31

17/08/08 vs Reading Renegades

Manchester Titans

Start was delayed by 5mins due to the slightly late arrival of the away team. Manchester only had white shirts available. Both coaches agreed to play with different coloured numbers/ panels on shirts. The match was played without problem or confusion. The crew would like to offer plaudits for the excellent attitude of the players and coaches of both teams. It was a hard-fought game played in very windy conditions that was a superb advert for the game.

Keith Alldritt #323

03/08/08 vs Lancashire Wolverines

Maidstone Pumas

East Kent's red jerseys were not a complete contrast to Maidstone's orange jerseys. This made some calls difficult to make.

Jim Briggs #31

03/08/08 vs London Cobras

Peterborough Saxons

There were no team areas marked and no numbers on the field

Muz Gibson #268

17/08/08 vs Bedfordshire Blue Raiders

Cambridgeshire Cats

The game was delayed for 10 minutes because the ambulance was caught in traffic

Muz Gibson #268

Tim Vickers #129

Unknown

Shropshire Revolution

Team Areas extended to the 20yd line

Martin Cockerill #345

20/07/08 vs Tamworth Phoenix

Oxford Saints

Officials' changing room could not be locked, but Oxford provided keys to lockers within the room. Tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits were provided in the changing rooms. Plaudits to Oxford for that and an excellently marked pitch (field audit = 6).

Jim Briggs #31

20/07/08 vs Norwich Devils

South Wales Warriors

Disc style plastic pylons. Ball boys consistently slow. Uneven surface and quite long grass on the entire field. Yardage markers on one side of field only.

Phil Clarke #372

20/07/08 vs Hampshire Thrashers

Bolton Bulldogs

BAFRA agreed to cover the game if kick off was 1100 as the crew were committed to cover the Chester game at 1430. At 1000 crew were informed by the coach of the home team that kick off would not be till 1200. Crew reluctantly had to withdraw from coverage from the game.

Charles Dean Young #258

10/08/08 vs Lancashire Wolverine Colts

Watford Cheetahs

Game was abandoned 12 minutes from the end of the 3rd quarter as the away team did not have enough fit players to complete the game.

Norman Cox #139

13/07/08 vs Peterborough Saxons

Sussex Thunder

Changing rooms were not lockable. The field scored a perfect 0 on the field audit. Plaudits to both teams for a hard fought game with no major penalties.

Peter Parsons #321

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, free kick, on A's 35. B21 is retreating toward B's goal line when he accidentally kicks the ball on B's 2 over B's end line.

Ruling?

Last week's play

Play: Player A67 is verbally abusive to an official during the 2nd quarter and penalised for unsportsmanlike conduct. During the 3rd quarter A67 is outside the team area, between the coaches box and the sideline. A67 is warned to return to the team area, he does so but drifts back towards the sidelines during the next play. An official on the sideline accidentally runs into A67 during the play and falls over. Ruling?

Ruling: A67 is guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct and team A will be penalised 15 yards from the succeeding spot. A67 is not ejected since his second unsportsmanlike foul does not come under those acts specifically prohibited and penalised as such in 9-1-2-a
