BRITBOWL VENUE ANNOUNCED

BAFL have announced that BritBowl XXII will take place at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster on September 20/21.

The 15,000 seat fully enclosed stadium is used by Doncaster Rovers football team, the Doncaster Dons Rugby League team and the Doncaster Belles women's football team. The South Yorkshire Mustangs are based on the second pitch at the facility.

BAFRA officials who wish to book accommodation for the weekend may wish to consider either the Premier Inn Doncaster (Lakeside), which is next to the stadium, or if that is full, the Premier Inn Pontefract South which is about 12 miles away just off the A1.

A GOOD WEEK FOR GERMAN TEAMS AND BRITISH OFFICIALS

Congratulations to Keith Wickham – who was selected to referee the final of the European Junior Championships in Spain last weekend. In the game, Germany beat Sweden 9-6 - all the scoring coming in the fourth quarter. Another BAFRA member, Ralph Lenoire, refereed the 7th/8th-place playoff at the same tournament: in that, Finland beat Spain 39-21.

A week earlier, Jim Briggs refereed the EFAF Cup Final. The home team Berlin Adler beat Parma Panthers from Italy by a score of 29-0.

PLAUDITS

The crew of the Norwich Devils @ Oxford Saints game on the 20th of July would like to thank the Saints' game management for their excellent hospitality and professionalism. All officials' assistants were properly vested in the correct uniforms, the field was impeccably-marked, officials were paid promptly and tea and biscuits were provided along with the barbecue. It was a great example of how well a game of American Football can be organised.

MORE PLAUDITS

The crew who worked the BAFL associate game on Saturday 19th July between the Gloucester Banshees and Bristol Aztecs would like to offer the following plaudits.

- The game management was first rate, field audit scored an 8, we were fully looked after by Jim Byrne the game manager who ensured that everything was waiting for us, including iced drinks in a very spacious changing room which were very welcome on quite a warm day.

- The players and coaching staff of Gloucester for being a credit to themselves and their organisation for never giving up and playing competitive football right till the final whistle.

- The players and coaching staff of the Bristol Aztecs were a credit to themselves and their organisation. They played a very different squad than in their normal fixtures in order to further develop their players.

It was a pleasure to be involved in a very enjoyable game of football.

Both coaches agreed to play with different coloured numbers/ panels on shirts. The match was played without problem or confusion. The crew would like to offer plaudits for the excellent attitude of the players and coaches of both teams. It was a hard-fought game played in very windy conditions that was a superb advert for the game.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, 2nd and 4, on A's 24. A33 fumbles on A's 27. A53 tackles B93 on A's 29 to prevent B93 from recovering the bouncing ball. A66 bats the ball backward from A's 30. A77 recovers the ball while grounded on A's 22.

Ruling?

Last week's play

Play: A's ball, free kick, on A's 35. B21 is retreating toward B's goal line when he accidentally kicks the ball on B's 2 over B's end line.

Ruling: Accidentally kicking the ball does not impart new impetus. If B21 batted the ball on B's 2 into B's end zone, the batting would impart new impetus but it would not be a foul. It would be a safety with no other option. This is true even though the free kick remains a free kick after the new impetus. If B21 intentionally kicked the free kick on B's 2 into B's end zone, the illegal kicking would impart new impetus and would also be a foul. The result of the play would be a safety. The enforcement spot for the illegal kicking foul would be the previous spot. With accidental kicking, there is no new impetus and there is no foul. Touchback. B's ball, 1st and 10, on B's 20.
