AVAILABILITY UPDATE

No sooner do we approach the end of one season when the next one raises its head.

I would very much like to start preparing the schedules and assignments for the BUAFL season, which starts around the end of October. To do this I will need your availability.

Could everyone login to the availability system and provide an update through to end of December please. Even if you do not intend to officiate the BUAFL league please provide an update showing your availability as NO for all weeks.

If at all possible I would like to issue the first assignments sheet as early as I can, hopefully showing the full period of the BUAFL season through to December. I also need to advise BUAFL of how many games we will be unable to cover each week. There are as many as 28 games a week this year so there is plenty of officiating for those that want it in all regions.

Your help and cooperation is most appreciated.

NEXT HOME GAME

New this week

London Warriors

Game suspended 50 minutes for an injured player. The injury occurred at the two-minute warning of the second half, and the second quarter was ended immediately by agreement of both head coaches. Warriors did not pay on the day as the Head Coach did not have his chequebook for the youth team's bank account.

Alan Dobson #308

06/09/09 v Farnham Knights

London Cobras

Second half played with a running clock by agreement of both coaches. The officials were paid for this game, including the BAFRA fee - it's only the youth game for which payment is owed.

Outstanding items from previous weeks

Coventry Jets

There were no 5 yard lines and the down box did not operate properly. There were some issues with Farnham's shirt numbering, they were resolved when they agreed to use an old strip which had a few duplicate numbers.

Muz Gibson #268

06/09/09 v Bristol Aztecs

Note: it is possible that any game may be cancelled, or any team may arrange additional games. Any dates mentioned here are intended only as a guide.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: A's ball, try, on B's 3. Team A's kicker and holder are in their normal position to attempt a field goal. The snapper's backward pass is high and caught by kicker A6. A6 tosses the ball to the holder still on his knee. The holder places the ball and A6 kicks the ball between the uprights above the crossbar.
Ruling?

Last week's play

Play: 4th and 8 on A's 21. A12's punt is blocked. The ball is rolling around at A's 10 when B75 – reaching down in an attempt to recover the ball – unintentionally kicks the ball into A's endzone where A77 recovers while grounded.
Ruling: Safety. Team A free kick on A's 20. Blocking of the punt does not change the impetus of the ball, B75's accidental kick counts as a muff. The impetus comes from A12's punt, therefore team A are responsible for the impetus which placed the ball in their endzone, where it was declared dead.
