DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

The Director of Finance will return on Monday, when he will issue cheques for the Coventry Junior game, as well as the Selection committee expenses, plus the two games from last weekend – Birmingham and Essex. Apologies for the delay but I have run out of cheques, and will have to wait for Andrew Lovell to return.

KIT FOR SALE

Due to knee surgery my officiating career is effectively over and with this I plan to step away from the sport completely. With this in mind I am hoping to sell a lot of our refereeing kit. I have various shirts, socks, trousers, flags, bean bags, score cards, hats etc. etc. If anyone is in the market for some second hand kit of this type then please get in contact with me.

25/08/13 v South Wales Warriors

Kick off delayed by 40 minutes due to late arrival of visiting team coach. Pitch was generally well marked, albeit faintly in places, although some main lines and one sideline were a little wonky.

Tim Ockendon #481

25/08/13 v Sheffield Predators

Lincolnshire Bombers

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: On a try attempt at Team B's 3 yard line, B1 intercepts Team A's legal forward pass and runs it to midfield. During the run back after the interception, B2 clips in the Team B end zone. Ruling?
Ruling?

Last week

Play: 4th and 18 for Team A from the Team B 48-yard line. A4's punt breaks the plane of Team B's goal line, and then A87 bats the ball backwards into the field of play. B44 muffs the ball on the Team B 2-yard line and A67 recovers on the Team B 6-yard line. During the kick, B82 blocks an opponent below the waist on the Team B 14-yard line. Ruling?

Ruling: Team B foul for blocking below the waist. This is a special case of PSK enforcement in which Team B's privilege for taking the ball at the spot of the illegal touching is not cancelled by accepting the penalty (6-3-11). 1st and 10 for Team B at the Team B 7 yard line after enforcing the penalty half distance from the spot of the foul, which is behind the PSK spot. Clock starts on snap. Note that this is contradicted by AR-6-3-11-III, but the rules always take precedent over the Approved Rulings.

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: How many times should the umpire allow the ball to fall off the tee at a kick off before insisting that the kicking team get a player to hold the ball in place?
Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: With 3 minutes remaining in the game, team A have just scored and are kicking off. They are losing by 4 points. On a 4 man crew, which official(s) should be signaling / reacting to this possible onside kick situation?
Answer: The Referee must signal to the official who should move in an onside kick situation (M-9-1-a-1). For a 4 man crew, the linejudge must be aware of this and be prepared to move up to the team B restraining line if the Referee signals (M-11-1-a-1).
