REPORT

NEXT HOME GAME

New this week

London Blitz

Uneven pitch but only one area identified as a trip hazard which was repaired by Game Management prior to kickoff. Plastic fencing staked with metal poles served as a replacement for limit lines, however by the corner of one end zone it was too close to the field. This too was resolved by Game Management prior to kickoff.

Outstanding items from previous weeks

Bristol Apache

Very rutted field, sand applied in places to fill potential trip hazards, a supply of spare sand was provided for both sidelines to fill holes where necessary. Field only 80 yards, with sidelines of differing lengths (home side shorter).

Leicester Falcons

Game scheduled for 4pm kick-off did not commence until 4.40pm due to the minimum medical requirements not being present. An ambulance arrived at 4.40 and the home team charged with a delay of game. Half-time was reduced to 10-minutes.

END ZONE

PLAY OF THE WEEK:

New this week

Play: Extra period. Team A scores during the first series to make the score A29-B23. Team A's try for point is blocked. The ball is rolling on B's 20 when B96 accidentally kicks the ball forward. B22 then bats the rolling ball forward on B's 40. B97 recovers on the 50 and advances across team A's goal line.
Ruling?

Last week

Play: On a try attempt at Team B's 3 yard line, B1 intercepts Team A's legal forward pass and runs it to midfield. During the run back after the interception, B2 clips in the Team B end zone. Ruling?

Ruling: The penalty is declined by rule, the try is not replayed and the down is not replayed. Note that penalties for flagrant personal fouls, dead-ball fouls and live-ball fouls treated as dead-ball fouls are enforced on the succeeding kickoff or at the succeeding spot in extra periods. (8-3-4-a & AR 8-3-4-II)

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: 4th and 20 at the A23, team A are punting. Right-footed punter A12's punt is blocked and the ball goes into the backfield. How should the referee and wingmen be positioned and react in order to cover the subsequent action? It is a 7 man crew.
Answer next issue...

Last week

Play: How many times should the umpire allow the ball to fall off the tee at a kick off before insisting that the kicking team get a player to hold the ball in place?
Answer: M-10-1-c-1. After the ball has been blown or fallen off the tee twice, insist that the kicking team use a holder.
