ELITE TRAINING DAY

The next Elite training clinic will be held at the Quality Hotel Coventry on 28^th September 2013. All BAFRA members are welcome to attend and all Elite programme members are expected to attend. Numbers are limited so please register by emailing elite@bafra.org.

VENUES FOR PLAY OFF GAMES

All officials assigned to play-off games must check the venue for the game and not assume it is at the ‘usual location’. Currently two teams, East Kilbride Pirates and London Warriors are not playing their play-off game on 15^th September at the venue they have used during the season. Arbiter is showing where they are playing.

In addition several other games are starting at times other than 1430, again check Arbiter.

Please make sure you attend the correct location at the appropriate time.

Game was delayed for around 20 minutes for an injury, we then had to wait a further 25 minutes as the NHS First Responder refused to move his vehicle from the field of play until the second ambulance arrived. Outstanding items from previous weeks
London Blitz	Uneven pitch but only one area identified as a trip hazard which was repaired by Game Management prior to kickoff. Plastic fencing staked with metal poles served as a replacement for limit lines, however by the corner of one end zone it was too close to the field. Play: A's ball, free kick, on A's 35. A7's free kick bounces on B's 2 and breaks the plane of B's goal line. A87 recovers the ball in B's end zone before the ball touches the ground in B's end zone. Ruling?

Last week

Play: A's ball, try, on B's 3. The score is A20-B21. Time expired in the 4th quarter during A39's touchdown run. QB A17 completes a forward pass to A88 in B's end zone. The pass was thrown from B's 2.

Ruling: The game is over. Team B wins. The final score is A20-B21. The pass by A17 was an illegal forward pass since the pass was from beyond the neutral zone. The penalty is five yards from the spot of the pass and a loss of down. The loss of down provision means that the try ends and the game is over.

MECHANICS:

New this week

Game Situation: 2nd and 10 at team A's 23 yard line. Quarterback A6 drops back to pass the ball. As A6 begins to pass the ball at the 15 yard line, he is contacted by B78. A6 continues with his throwing action and releases the ball. The ball lands on the ground on team A's 20 yard line. There are no receivers in the area where the ball landed. It is not clear who the Quarterback was trying to throw the ball to before he was contacted. Ruling?

Last week

Play: During the coin toss, the Referee, Umpire (and deep wing officials on a 7 man crew) are in the centre of the field with the players. Where should the wing officials and the Back Judge be positioned during this time?
Answer: M-8-4-3. The Line Judge and Back Judge shall stand on the press box side of the field, one on each 30 yard line. The Linesman shall be positioned on the opposite side of the field to the Line Judge, also on the 30 yard line. The officials should be prepared to watch players not participating in the coin toss and escort players out to the 9 yard marks if required. Pre-game duties (such as briefing a chain crew) will take precedent over this ceremonial role.
